Whether
it's learning how to swim or splashing about with your family,
the YMCA has been involved
in Aquatics since the late 1800's. The YMCA created formalized
swim lessons and gave birth to what we now call Swim Teams. The
Y was instrumental in developing the first lifeguard certification
training and remains today the largest provider of certifications
in the country.
The Helena Family YMCA offers the following levels of swim lessons
based on age:
Aquatot ~ 6-23 months old, also 2-4 year olds with little to no water experience or a fear of entering the water, also called Parent/Child classes.
PERCH ~ 2-4 year olds that enjoy the water, but still need the one on one attention from a parent. This level is new to our YMCA, it is structured similar to a Pike class with the main difference being the child’s parent is in the water also, being guided by a instructor.
PIKE ~ 3-5 year old beginners willing to enter the pool without a parent.

RECREATIONAL
Various times are set aside for recreational swim. Children under
the age of 7 and those who cannot stand in the shallow end or
pass the deep water test must have supervision by an "in-water" adult
at least 18 years of age.
EXERCISE PROGRAMS
We offer adult lap swim for those 18 and older. We also offer aqua aerobics exercise classes at various levels of intensity along with aqua sculpt and water jog (check fitness and pool schedules for current times).
